Firm History

Building on our past. Focusing on your future.

BFOH has grown to be the largest law firm south of Indianapolis and we attribute our success to our founding members Fred Bamberger, William Foreman, C.E. Oswald and Robert Hahn.

In 1959, Fred Bamberger, Bill Foreman, C.E. Oswald, and Robert Hahn joined their practices, creating the framework for today’s vibrant and ever-expanding law practice. Most of the firm’s present attorneys had the honor of practicing law beside one or more of the founding members.

Today, the firm is pro-active with regard to technology, but the firm’s use of computers (and even telephones) took some adjustments for the founders. In the early days of BFOH, one telephone served the entire firm. Back then, most communications were by mail. The next big technological developments were the advent of the photocopier and then the computer. Computers were first introduced to the firm by Bob Hahn when he purchased one for his secretary. We are happy to report that today all attorneys have telephones and computers on their desks. We do wonder what Fred Bamberger and Bill Foreman would say about e-mail, cell phones and PDAs.

We take air conditioning for granted, but the founding members did not. Before air conditioning was in use in the historic Hulman Building, worked stopped at 2:00 p.m. during hot summer afternoons, and courts simply did not operate during the hot summer months. At dusk, the work of the firm continued. For years, many of the offices had outlets at the top of the windows for a wall-mounted fan. Transoms are still apparent in many parts of the building.

BFOH continues to be housed in the historic Hulman Building in downtown Evansville, but has added offices in Indianapolis, Mount Vernon, Princeton and Poseyville. The firm’s offices throughout the area, in addition to the number of attorneys holding a license to practice in Kentucky and Illinois, have enabled BFOH to continue its strong regional presence.

The firm has grown from the four founders to 41 attorneys today. We can assist in a number of different practice areas. If you would like to contact us, please call (812) 425-1591, or send an e-mail to kweinzapfel@bamberger.com.
